THE MANGO

Mango is a fruit form Mangifera indica L tree, original from India and brought to America by Portuguese colonizers, where cultivation found exceptional conditions and total adaptation, so much that it seemed to be original from the Mexican Pacific south cost. It´s a leafy up to 20m high tree, evergreen, and long-lived. The fruit is a drupe that varies in shape, size, and color, depending on the variety. Nowadays, there are more than 1,000 different varieties of mangoes all over the world.

Mango is a crop of tropical and humid subtropical climate. The conditions that it needs for a good development and production are: a period of drying, a temperature between 25 and 30 °C and a maximum altitude of 600 meters above sea level. Drain, deep and fertile soils are preferred.

Mango is consumed as fresh fruit or juices, but also as ice creams, sweets, jams and preserves. Is industrially process in pulp and pickled and frozen products. Mango is considered a very healthy fruit, its very high-water content (86,1%) allows a nice form of hydration.
